Five Tips to Balance Prepping and Everyday Life

Five Tips to Balance Prepping and Everyday Life

One of the issues with prepping is finding a balance between it and everyday life.  How does someone prepare for a collapse of society, yet live a normal life?  How do we find the middle ground between not being prepared, and living in an underground bunker 24 hours a day, seven days a week?

For example, from time to time someone will post in the forum asking about buying land away from a city.  However, relocating to a rural area presents its it own problems.

Let’s take a few minutes and talk about finding some balance between prepping and living life.

College Degree

We have to have resources to develop a well rounded prepping plan.  Those resources start with our cash flow.  The cash flow starts with either our job skills and education.

Get a college degree in a portable job skill.  This does not include a degree in liberal arts, art history, feminist studies… or anything else along those lines.  Get a degree in something that everyone will need sooner or later – nursing, teaching, accounting, law enforcement, lawyer… etc.

It would be helpful if the degree relates to something that can be used in a collapse, such as nursing.

The college degree allows someone to find a job in a rural area.  The job allows you to buy property and a home.

Stay Alert

Read the news and stay up on current events.

How many people know North Korea tested an ICBM that can carry a nuclear warhead?  Or that cases of Swine Flu are being reported in India?

However, let’s not obsess over the news.

Conspiracy Theories

Stay away from conspiracy theories, they will start to consume your life.

Back in the 1990s, after Waco and Ruby Ridge, there were conspiracy theories that said the two events were test runs to see how the public would react to government actions against cilvians.

After Bill Clinton took office, there were theories the United Nations would be brought in to disarm the public.

Free trade would destabilize the middle class and promote riots.

9/11 was an inside job so the United States would have a reason to invade the Middle East.

The list goes on and on.  All it does it take focus away from prepping.  The more time you put into conspiracy theories, the less time you have for other stuff.

Get A Hobby

Get some kind of hobby that can be loosely related to prepping.

Examples include:

  • Hiking
  • Camping
  • Hunting
  • Fishing
  • Gardening
  • Blacksmithing… etc.

Between your college education and hobbies, you start to become a multifaceted individual.

Enjoy Life

Prepping is not just buying some freeze dried food and storing it in the closet.  It is about living life while maintaining a certain degree of readiness.

A guy I went to high school with in the 1980s. his dad was so paranoid the government was after him, he carried a handgun everywhere, had a firearm in every room of the house, and worked cash only small jobs.  He talked about how the government was after him, but I never understood the reason.  In all honesty, the guy needed serious mental help.

Then there are people who want to buy land 100 miles from nowhere, bury a bunker and go off the grid forever.  Why?

With prepping and getting involved with conspiracy theories, it can be easy to go off the deep end.

So, enjoy your life and have fun with the family.  Take the kids fishing, camping or hunting,  Incorperate prepping into your everyday life, but do not obsess over it.
