Watch: Ruger Mini-14 Dust Test

Watch: Ruger Mini-14 Dust Test

The guys over at the Firearm Blog TV on YouTube take a Ruger Mini-14, spray it with baby powder, then shoot it.

While watching the video, I figured the first malfunction would be a failure to feed.  Let’s just say that I was surprised at what the first failure actually was.

In all honesty, it was not how the Mini-14 did in the dust test, but rather the blue-green shorts that caught my attention.  There just seems to be something about a guy with arms like his, shooting a mini-14 and wearing blue-green shorts.

Now for the video.

Personally, rather than baby powder, I would like to see mud or sand. While I understand baby powder is very fine, I have never found baby powder in my rifle after taking it in the woods.

Overall, I was happy with how the Mini-14 performed.

In the late 1980s I owned a Ruger Mini-14 in stainless steel.  In the 1990s I had a Ruger Mini-30.  On both rifles the factory stock was replaced with a metal folding stock.  I miss both rifles dearly and have thought about buying another one.

With a lot of shooters falling in love with the AR platform, it is nice to see someone like the Firearm Blog doing videos on the Mini-14.  Keep up the good work guys.
