Wilson Combat and California: New AR Rifles to Conform to the Legal Realities of the Golden State

Wilson Combat

Wilson Combat is respected by many shooters for making top quality firearms. From 1911 pistols to professional shotguns and high speed rifles, the company offers shooting solutions for a broad range of people with deep pockets.

California shooters, however, may have been unsure if the company would continue to serve them due to the spiderweb of laws placed on the manufacture, sale and ownership of weapons in The Golden State. It is tough, I would imagine, for a company to balance the legal research and engineering designs of making a California specific gun with the potential sales to a rather large market of shooters.

While the company offers “compliant” 1911 pistols, the current set of regulations have hampered Wilson Combat (and many other rifle companies) from selling AR-style guns to California customers. Now, however, the company has decided to use the Option Zero stock on its AR rifles to ensure they can continue to serve residents of California.

The Option Zero stock is a fixed stock made by Survivor Systems that eliminates the pistol grip that California’s elected representatives decided was unacceptable for its citizens to use. It has the general shape and angle of a pistol grip, but has a “wing” of polymer that prevents the thumb from wrapping around the back of the grip.

While the stock is fixed, it does allow you to use spacers to properly fit the gun to your body for the correct length of pull. The stock has a magazine storage well and a QD socket for attaching a sling.
