Standard Manufacturing has introduced a compact and stockless version of their SKO 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun. Despite the name Shorty, it has an 18″ barrel and 26″ overall length which qualifies it as a shotgun according to the US legislation and doesn’t require any tax stamps to acquire one.

The SKO Shorty has a 3″ chamber which means it can shoot 3″ and 2 3/4″ shells. It feeds from 2, 5 and 10 round magazines and 25-round drums. These are the same magazines used in SKO shotguns. This shotgun is a gas operated firearm. It also features AR-style controls and last round bolt hold open. The upper and lower receivers are made of 7075 aluminum with hard coat anodizing. The SKO Shorty comes with a 5 round magazine. The overall weight without the magazine is 7.14 lbs.

Right now it is available for $575 as a limited time offer. As in the case of SKO shotguns, the Shorty is also not available for purchase in the states of New York, California and Connecticut.

Although I don’t see any real use for 12 gauge shotguns without a stock, I think there must be a significant demand. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be similar offerings in the market. Perhaps designing such shotguns with some sort of a detachable stock would be a better idea. In that case, it would provide the option to make it useful for a wider range of applications.
