Lake City & Hornady Combine Efforts to Produce Frontier Cartridge

Frontier Cartridge

The Lake City Army Ammunition plant is known for making lots of NATO calibers for our military. Not only does our military appreciate their work, but many civilians like both Lake City brass casings for their own reloading purposes and the loaded ammunition they produce. Both of which are known for consistent, high quality.

Recently, the Lake City Army Ammunition plant approached Hornady with the temptation of a joint venture: Lake City’s production capabilities with Hornady’s bullets. Sounds like a great idea, right?

Jason Hornady firmly believed so when he was quoted as saying: “When you have an opportunity like this, you cannot pass it up!”

At the moment, the Frontier Cartridge label of ammunition is only producing .223 Remington and 5.56mm NATO ammunition, but in a large variety of grain weights. Those offerings are listed below:

  • .223 Remington 55 Grain FMJ
  • .223 Remington 55 Grain SP
  • .223 Remington 55 Grain HP Match
  • .223 Remington 68 Grain BTHP Match
  • 5.56mm NATO 55 Grain HP Match
  • 5.56mm NATO 55 Grain FMJ (M193)
  • 5.56mm NATO 62 Grain FMJ
  • 5.56mm NATO 62 Grain BTHP Match
  • 5.56mm NATP 62 Grain SP
  • 5.56mm NATO 68 BTHP Match
  • 5.56mm NATO 75 Grain BTHP Match

These will all be coming in boxes of 20 cartridges and likely available in February of 2018 according to Hornady’s website. At this time, there is no MSRP stated on their website for these various flavors of ammo.

Steve Hornady, President of Hornady, outlines why this is such an important partnership:

This is the best of both worlds. Using Lake City’s production capability, capacity… and a Hornady bullet… FULL quality.

The consumer walks out the door knowing that he’s got a Hornady product that he can count on, its going to deliver the performance that we [Hornady] stand for.

This will definitely be something to look out for at SHOT Show 2018. Would you be willing to buy some Frontier Cartridge ammunition?…
